General Facts about Canada’s Wonderland

GENERAL PARK

• Canada’s Wonderland opened on May 23, 1981. 
• The park is situated on 300 acres in Vaughan, Ontario and features more than 200 attractions including 17 roller coasters, two children's areas and a 20-acre water park called Splash Works. 
• The park’s landscape features approximately 6,000 trees and 75,000 shrubs.
• The park’s parking lot is over 3 million square feet with 10,300 parking spaces. It would be able to hold over 50 cruise ships in the same space!
• The Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic Holiday and Labour Day Weekend firework celebrations use in excess of 6,000 fireworks reaching heights of more than 600 feet (183m).
• During the park’s Opening Ceremonies on May 23, 1981, Wayne Gretzky made a special guest appearance to raise the Canadian flag.

WONDER MOUNTAIN

• Wonder Mountain is the park’s centrepiece and is 150 feet high at its tallest peak. The mountain originally had a red beacon on this peak to alert planes of the structure. This was due to the Maple Airport that was once located on the other side of Jane Street near Major Mackenzie.
• 30,000 gallons (113,562 litres) of water flows over Victoria Falls every minute. The 60-foot high waterfall also acts as a cooling tower for the park’s air conditioning. As the water cascades off the mountain, it’s cooled and then distributed to various buildings through an underground utility system. Impressive and energy efficient!

RIDES & ATTRACTIONS

• Canada’s Wonderland has the third most roller coasters among all amusement parks in the world with 18 in the park.
• It would take more than 15.8 million bottles of water to fill Splash Works. Total water volume in Splash Works is 7,949,365 liters (2.1M US gallons).
• Leviathan is the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the park, with a summit that reaches 93.3 metres high and speeds that reach 148 km/h. Its lift hill features a whopping 430 steps! It is also the tallest and fastest roller coaster in Canada. 
• Yukon Striker is the world’s longest (1,105 metres or 3,625 feet), tallest (75 metres or 245 feet) and fastest dive coaster (130 km/h or 80 mph). 
• The Behemoth roller coaster summit is 70.1m high and features 322 steps on its lift hill.
• Longest roller coaster in the park: Leviathan at 5,486 feet long (1,672m)
• Shortest roller coaster in the park is Taxi Jam at 205 feet long (62m)
• Fastest non-coaster ride in the park – Drop Tower 100km/h, straight down!
• Before its departure after the 1994 season, Zumba Flume gave over 14,000,000 rides (14,398,530)
• Sledge Hammer is a ‘one-of-a-kind’ attraction with no other similar ride ever built.
• Dragon Fyre was originally built to operate with three trains. During testing it was discovered that it only allowed 22 seconds to unload/load each train. The third train was eventually modified and used on The Bat.
• Canada’s Wonderland is home to two unique carousels, with 106 horses to ride.
• Canada’s Wonderland’s WindSeeker was the first of its kind to open in the world in 2011.
• The ride that saw the highest ridership in 2019 was Leviathan, at 1,675,372 rides.
• In 2019, the non-coaster ride to give the most rides was Vikings Rage at 977,550. 
• In its inaugural year in 2019, Yukon Striker gave 1,367,423 rides. 
• From opening in 1981 to the end of the 2019 season, total ridership at Canada’s Wonderland clocks in at approximately 882 million rides. 

FOOD

• More than 50,000 pounds of bulk candy are sold in a season. That’s the average size of 5 adult elephants!
• International Street’s Pizza Pizza sells more pizza slices than any other Pizza Pizza location in Ontario.
• More than 120,000 foot-long hotdogs are consumed in a season, equivalent to the length of 23 Behemoths!
• If you stacked all of the 135,957 whole pizzas sold in the park during the 2017 season on top of each other, they would equal the height of Skyhawk 66 times!
• In the 2019 season, the Park sold more than 290,000 Funnel Cakes! That recipe with the classic strawberry sauce and vanilla ice cream has been the park’s signature recipe since Canada’s Wonderland opened in 1981.

MERCHANDISE/GAMES

• Half a million stuffed toys are won at the Park each season.
