With a diverse selection of roller coasters, Canada’s Wonderland has something for everyone to enjoy. Here are some fun facts about the coasters in our park.

Did you know?

  1. There are 17 roller coasters at Canada's Wonderland; making it one of the top 3 coaster destinations in the world!

  2. Yukon Striker, our newest coaster is the tallest, fastest, and longest DIVE coaster in the world! 245 feet drop, 130 km/h and 3,625 feet long (1,105 m).

  3. The following five roller coasters have been operating since the park opened in 1981: Thunder Run, Wilde Beast, Mighty Canadian Minebuster, Dragon Fyre and Ghoster Coaster.

  4. Dragon Fyre has had the most riders since the park opened in 1981 entertaining over 43.2 million riders!

  5. Thunder Run wasn’t originally in Wonder Mountain. It operated as Blauer Enzian until 1985, but in 1986 it was relocated, extended, and incorporated into the mountain.

  6. The shortest roller coaster in the park is Taxi Jam at 205 feet long (62m) and the longest roller coaster in the park is Leviathan at 5,486 feet long (1,672m)

  7. If you straightened out Leviathan’s track and stood it on end, it would be double the height of the tallest manmade structure in the world: the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE.  Leviathan has 5,486 feet (1,672m) of track and the Burj Khalifa is 2,722 feet tall (829m). Wow, that’s a lot of track!

  8. At 230 feet tall (70m), Drop Tower and Behemoth are the same height.

  9. The maintenance crews switch between Nylon and Urethane wheels during the season. The white wheels made of nylon are used in colder weather. The yellow wheels are made of urethane; these wheels are used in the warmer summer months and allow the trains to run at a faster speed.

  10. When our gates close for the season, people often think our associates get a 5-month ‘vacation’. But for our Maintenance team, it’s quite the opposite. Each roller coaster train is taken off the tracks and moved to a warehouse or storage facility. Then they are completely disassembled…down to the very last bolt.

  11. Of all the coasters, Leviathan gave the most rides in 2019: 1.6 million!

  12. Dragon Fyre was originally built to operate with three trains. During testing it was discovered that running three didn’t allow enough time for loading and unloading. The third train was eventually modified and used on The Bat.

  13. During design and construction of Canada's Wonderland, the park modeled The Mighty Canadian Minebuster after the famous Coney Island in Cincinnati, Ohio Shooting Star, and Wilde Beast after Wildcat.

  14. When the Thunder Run train comes rolling through the station, its 38 riders will speed by at 68km/hr. The train operates with 1 rubber car tire per car, 200 wheels; 80 road wheels, 40 upstop wheels and 80 guide wheels to allow for that exciting ride through the mountain!

  15. Did you know that you would have to climb 322 stairs to reach the top of Behemoth’s lift hill?
