Here's everything you need to know about ice skating at WinterFest

One of the big attractions at the new WinterFest holiday event is skating on the beautiful Snow Flake Lake in front of the iconic Wonder Mountain. With all the surrounding holiday lights, it’s like a picture-perfect Christmas card! If you’re curious about how you and your family can get skating, here’s the most important things to know.

Everyone needs to reserve a skate time.

Skate sessions are 30 minutes each and because there is a limit to the number of people on ice at one time, we ask guests to reserve a session. This can be done one of two ways:

  1. In park when you visit. If you do this, we recommend you do it immediately when you get to the park. Head over to the skate shop to see what times are available. Remember space is limited, so it’s first-come, first-served. If you bring your own skates, there is no ice booking/skate rental charge. If you need to rent skates, it's $10 per person to book ice time, which includes your rental.
  2. Or you can book online, in advance for a fee ($10 per person - includes skate rental). This is the best way to guarantee you a spot. Note, online bookings are not available for same-day skating. Best to check availability in park.

Have your own skates? You can bring them.

But remember you still need to reserve your skate time. In person when you arrive (at no cost), or online in advance for a fee. If you'll be carrying skates around the park, please have them in a sealed bag or make sure the blades are covered by skate guards.

We also have skates to rent.

They’re $10 per pair (includes ice booking time).

There is a waiver to sign.

Everyone who goes on the ice needs to sign a waiver and those under 18 need a parent or guardian to sign for them. We have the waivers available here for download so you can do this in advance and bring it in. We also have paper copies in the skate shop.

Once you get your time booked and waivers signed, you’ll be given a wristband.

If your skate time is happening immediately, you’ll get your skates/ rentals and head out to the seating area beside the ice to get ready. If your skate session is a little later, you’re welcome to go enjoy the park's Christmas activities and come back at least 15 minutes before your skate time to get your skates on and ready for the ice! If you are renting, we recommend arriving to the skate shop at least 20 minutes before your skate time so you can get rentals sorted out.

Special notes for kids under 48”

They cannot skate alone and they all need to be wearing skates. Children under 48" need to be accompanied on the ice by a supervising companion skater. They are also required to wear CSA-approved helmets. We provide them free of charge, but guests are also welcome to bring their own. We also have skate-assist push devices for kids who need a little extra help on the ice.

Still have questions? Check the FAQ on our skating page for more details.

Enjoy!
